How to save a WeChat article as PDF

Choose PDF on the article page, send the extracted article to your browser's print dialog, then select Save as PDF. Use the file for paginated reading, annotation, or printing.

Is PDF the right format for this article?

PDF is useful when you need a paginated reading copy of a WeChat Official Account article. WeChat to Markdown prepares the article body and opens browser printing. You complete the process by choosing Save as PDF; you do not need to upload the article to a conversion website.

For editing, linking notes, or importing into a knowledge base, start with Markdown. For continuous reading in a browser and separately managed image files, consider HTML with an images ZIP. An image appearing in a PDF does not mean you also received its original image file.

Save one WeChat article as PDF

  1. Open the original article on a computer

Use the installation page to choose the official Chrome or Edge store, install the extension, and open an article you can access normally. Check that the title, body, and images you need are visible. Resolve any sign-in, verification, or unavailable-content issue on the original page first.

  2. Select PDF in the article tool panel

Choose PDF as the export format, then click Export PDF (shown as “导出 PDF” in the Chinese interface). The WeChat article entry creates a print document from the extracted content. The Download article images option is hidden for PDF; image ZIPs belong to the Markdown and HTML export paths.

  3. Select Save as PDF in the print dialog

Check the destination so you do not send the article to a physical printer. Review the preview before adjusting paper size, orientation, scale, and margins. Setting names may differ between browsers and operating systems.

  4. Save and reopen the file

Click Save and choose a folder you can find again. Open the PDF in a reader and inspect the first and last pages, important images, and tables. Canceling or closing the print dialog does not create a saved PDF.

For the browser's basic print commands and keyboard shortcuts, see Google Chrome's official printing help. Pressing Ctrl + P (or ⌘ + P on Mac) on the original page prints that page. Its result may differ from the extension's extracted-article print view.

What to check in print preview

Paper and orientation: inspect the widest content

Try A4 portrait for regular reading. Compare a landscape preview if the article contains wide tables or horizontal diagrams. Zoom in on the widest item and check for clipping; the page count alone does not tell you whether the article is complete.

Scale and margins: keep text readable

If text looks too small or the side margins are excessive, adjust scale and margins, then review the preview again. Do not shrink text just to reduce page count. Inspect tall images that span pages and headings stranded at the bottom of a page; browser pagination cannot interpret every part of an article.

Backgrounds, headers, and footers: choose for your purpose

When your browser offers these controls, check whether background graphics are needed to understand a diagram. Browser headers and footers may add dates, page numbers, or addresses; keep or disable them as needed. Source information within the article is separate from these browser additions.

Example: a tutorial with three important images

This is an example checklist, not a promise about an article's page or image count. Suppose the original contains three instructions, three key images, and a summary table. Save it as “Example tutorial-reading copy.pdf,” then check:

  • The title is correct, and the final instruction and closing text are present.
  • All three key images are legible, including any text within them.
  • The table's final column is visible, and source information meets your archiving needs.
  • You can open the PDF from its folder, confirming that it is the saved file rather than the print preview.

To retain separate image files, follow the WeChat image download guide. For important material, you may also keep an editable Markdown copy for search and later organization.

Troubleshoot missing files, images, and page breaks

The extension reports printing, but no PDF appears

Check whether the print dialog is still waiting, whether Save as PDF is selected, and whether you completed the final Save action. Then inspect the folder you chose. The extension cannot confirm whether you saved or canceled in the system print dialog; its message cannot replace a file check.

Images are missing or show placeholders

Return to the original article and confirm that images load. Check your connection and export again. If the preview is still incomplete, export HTML with Download article images enabled and review any failure message. Inspect successfully downloaded images in the extracted local document. Treat a PDF with missing images as an incomplete archive.

Tall images span pages, tables are clipped, or pagination looks wrong

Compare orientation, scale, and margins, then inspect the affected pages. Continuous HTML reading may suit very wide tables or complex layouts better. PDF export does not promise a pixel-for-pixel copy of the WeChat page or automatic print layout optimization for every tall image.

The extension entry or print dialog does not appear

Confirm that you opened the original WeChat article in a supported desktop browser and enabled the extension, then refresh and retry. If the problem continues, report the browser, steps, and a publicly accessible example through support.

The limits of single-article printing

This guide covers one WeChat article at a time. You complete saving in the browser's print dialog. The feature does not generate PDFs on a server or promise to combine a whole collection into one PDF with a single click.

Static PDFs cannot fully preserve video, audio, interactive cards, or dynamic effects. Export cannot recover content that was deleted, inaccessible, or never loaded. Completing a print job also does not create a backup of the extension library; include important files in your own backup routine.

For multiple articles, start with collection archiving. For knowledge management, see Obsidian import or SiYuan sync. The store product and the open-source Community edition have different feature scopes. Check the extension and pricing page for current entitlements and allowances.
