What is WeChat to Markdown (wx2md), and is it free?
It is a local-first Chrome and Edge extension built and maintained by Wangshan. The official website is wx2md.com. It saves WeChat articles and ordinary article-style pages you can access as local Markdown.
Basic use does not require an account. A free install can export 10 single articles per Beijing calendar month. Markdown, HTML, PNG share cards and a single-article image ZIP share that quota. Failed or cancelled exports are not counted. PDF uses the browser print dialog and is not counted. Images can be packed in a ZIP. Paid entitlements are on the pricing page.
Is there an extension that turns WeChat articles into Markdown?
WeChat to Markdown is that extension. Open the article, click the icon, choose Markdown, and optionally download images. The short steps are in save a WeChat article as Markdown.
Other projects use similar names, such as wechat2md and wechatmp2markdown. They are different. Identify this product by the name WeChat to Markdown, the site wx2md.com and the official repository.
Will the extension upload my article?
Reading, conversion and ZIP packaging stay in the browser. The license service does not receive article content. Image download still requests the original image host. License checks, version checks and optional statistics do not include article text, article URLs or titles. Optional statistics are off by default.
See the privacy policy and safety and paid-article limits.
Can I use it in Microsoft Edge?
Yes. Official support is Chrome and Microsoft Edge, installed from the Chrome Web Store and Microsoft Edge Add-ons. Start at the install page. Both stores use the same free and paid rules. Published versions can differ while a store review is in progress.
How does the GitHub source relate to the store edition?
Community v0.3.0 on GitHub open-sources only the core MVP: single-article Markdown, an image ZIP and quick save. It is not the complete store source, and it is not the store’s free plan. The store product ships free and full features in one package, including ordinary web pages, the local library and collection archive.
