How do I save a WeChat article as Markdown?

Use WeChat to Markdown in the browser: install the extension, open an article you can access, choose Markdown, and download images when you need them offline.

  1. Install and open the article

Pick Chrome or Edge on the install page. Basic use does not require an account.

  2. Click the extension icon

Choose “Open tools for this page”. The first-save steps show how to pin the icon.

  3. Choose Markdown

Export text only, or enable image download to get a ZIP.

The file keeps the title, author, time and source. A free install includes 10 single-article exports per calendar month in Beijing time. Markdown, HTML, PNG and a single-article image ZIP share that quota. A failed or cancelled export is not counted. Browser-print PDF is not counted. Details are in the Markdown guide.

Will saved images stop loading, and how do I keep them?

Without image download, Markdown keeps the original network addresses, so pictures disappear if those hosts do. With download enabled, successful images go into the ZIP and the article uses relative paths.

Failed images keep their network address and are counted in the result. See download images in a ZIP.

Why does pasting into Typora or VS Code look broken?

Copying the webpage often drops headings, lists and the source. Exported Markdown opens in Typora, VS Code, Obsidian or SiYuan without scraping the page again.

Keep the article and its image folder together. Import steps are on Obsidian and SiYuan.

How do I keep a local copy before an article is removed?

Export while you can still open the article. The extension cannot recover text that is already deleted or that you are not allowed to read.

The local library does not expire on a timer, but uninstalling the extension or clearing browser data can remove it. Keep another copy of anything important. See the library retention answer and the privacy policy.
